Cheo leo | Perched
Lấy cảm hứng từ những chuyến đi vùng Tây Bắc và bộ phim “Những đứa trẻ trong sương”, mê mẩn bởi hình ảnh những cô gái H’Mông tảo tần và tháo vát.
Tuổi mới lớn của các em gắn liền với những gánh nặng sớm: từ lao động nương rẫy đến trách nhiệm gia đình, từ tảo hôn đến bỏ học. Dù vậy, họ vẫn giữ gìn vẻ đẹp truyền thống – những đường kim, guồng sợi, họa tiết thổ cẩm, làn điệu dân ca. “Cheo leo” là lời tri ân tới những người con gái vùng cao – mạnh mẽ, bền bỉ và đầy nghị lực. Gam xanh chàm, họa tiết tròn và hình ảnh đồ bạc, gà trống để gợi không khí văn hóa H’Mông. Tác phẩm mong muốn mang đến một góc nhìn cảm thông hơn với những thách thức mà các cô gái H’Mông đang đối mặt. Và xa hơn, là mong ước về một tương lai nơi các em có thể tự do lớn lên – với học hành, ước mơ và lựa chọn của riêng mình.

Inspired by journeys to Việt Nam’s Northwest and the film Children of the Mist, this work begins with a quiet fascination for H’Mông girls. Capable, resilient, and far older than their years.
Early burdens often mark their coming of age. From labor on the hillsides to family responsibility, from early marriage to leaving school behind. Yet within these realities, they continue to safeguard a living beauty. The steady rhythm of needle and thread, spinning wheels in motion, brocade patterns, folk songs carried by the wind.
“Cheo Leo” is a gesture of gratitude to Highland daughters. Intense, enduring, and luminous with inner resolve. Indigo blue anchors the work, joined by circular motifs and symbols of silver ornaments and roosters, evoking the cultural atmosphere of the H’Mông.
This piece offers a more compassionate gaze toward the challenges these girls face today. Beyond that, it holds a hope for the future. A future where they are free to grow at their own pace, with education, dreams, and the power to choose their own path.
